About

Founder portrait

Wise Heart began as six friends practising in a village hall on Tuesday mornings, with a borrowed stack of mats and a heater that never quite worked.

Twelve years later we have our own floor, a proper kettle and around three hundred people who call this room theirs. What has not changed is the size of the class or the pace of the teaching.

We teach a traditional ashtanga foundation with a softer, breath-led approach to everything built on top of it. We do not talk about levels much. We talk about today.

What we hold to

  • Fourteen mats, no more Small enough that your teacher knows your name and your shoulder.
  • No mirrors Practice is felt from the inside. We took them down in 2016 and never missed them.
  • Pay what you can, quietly Ask for a concession and you will get one. No form, no explanation.
  • Phones in the basket The hour is yours. The world will still be there afterwards.
